“I love you. I’m doing this for you.” I backed away from the car window with a sob, and with all my might, I ran toward the glowing mist. The last thing I remembered before it enveloped me, before I felt the hands reaching for me, was her screaming my name. But she would be safe now. If someone had to die, let it be me. I would give my life for hers. I loved her more than I feared my nightmares or the evil I now faced. I sobbed as I slid into nothingness.
But as my feet began to slip, Heath’s sister appeared. After Gloria took my hand, the other hands, the ones that pinched and scratched me, no longer touched me. Together we ran, faster than I’d ever run before. We ran until I couldn’t run anymore. Suddenly Gloria wasn’t with me. I was alone. All alone on the dark highway. I could see Amy’s car lights in the distance. I heard her yelling my name.
I struggled to breathe but finally caught my second wind. The stars glittered above me; there was no fog, no haze, and no ominous cloud. Just stars that had always been here, glittering over the island.
But I would never leave the island again. I’d have to stay here, for they were out there somewhere, the unhappy Blake ghosts who were hungry for blood. My blood. My sacrifice, my willingness to give my life for Amy, had bought us some time. Hopefully, a lifetime.
I ran back to my sobbing sister and held her in my arms. She climbed into the passenger seat this time, and I got behind the steering wheel. As I did, I felt something poke me in the side. I dug in my pocket and pulled out the airplane. I got out of the car quickly and threw it as far as I could into the ocean. I wouldn’t need it again.
I was home now.
The End
Never Dead from M.L. Bullock
“Why does the ghost have his head in the oven?” I groaned at the sight of Joey’s bony ass sticking out of the appliance. He hadn’t even opened the door.
Ex-burlesque dancer and aspiring author Tamara Garvey just had her world turned upside down.
Her best friend died and leaves her as guardian to a teenager. Now, not only is Tamara struggling with her new role but she is also charged with caring for the family home, the Ridaught Plantation known by the locals as the Dead House.
To her surprise, the place is already occupied by an angsty ghost named Joey who has a penchant for wearing her clothes and a fascination for paranormal movies and television shows. Tamara and Joey develop an unexpected friendship but questions remain about how and when he got there.
In an attempt to fit in with the suspicious small town residents, Tamara turns on the charm and decides to host a community wide Halloween party, right at the historic home.
Everything turns out great until the dead begin to show up too.
Can Tamara solve the secret of the Ridaught Plantation before it’s too late?
Can she protect Chloe from the dead who are assembling?
Or will they also become ghostly residents of the Dead House?

Author Note
What’s your biggest fear? What about your top three? Total disclosure—I have more than three. I bet fear of flying is on your list somewhere. It’s definitely on my short list. It all started when I was a teenager. Just a small town girl who flew over the Bermuda Triangle to see her Daddy. He was always stationed at some exotic location, usually in Europe. Bermuda was much closer—he was stationed on the now closed naval air station there but I was a huge Daddy’s girl.
I would have flown to the North Pole to see him. I sure miss Dad.
The year was 1984--I remember that because Van Halen’s new album was my favorite and I had a worn out cassette tape. Anyone else have one of those clunky tape players? No? Just me? I was also a fan of parachute pants, short skirts and hair mousse. Don’t judge me.
Back to a fear of flying…
I can’t believe how terrifying that initial flying experience was and yet at the same time I found it exhilarating. My first flight turned out to be the longest of my lifetime thus far but I do have a trip planned to Egypt next year or the year after. Whenever I get my courage built back up. My upcoming flight will top the one to Bermuda, at least in length of flight but I think I can handle it. Maybe. As long there’s a nice view.
Yeah, I can handle it. I’m older now, and wiser, more confident in the airplane industry. (Not really.) I should have more faith in modern technology. But what if there is the possibility that my next flight faces more difficult challenges than say turbulence or the distribution of too many peanuts.
Maybe my next flight will be plagued by ghosts. What about yours? Anything is possible--including a haunted flight. Especially one crowded with passengers who have secrets, possibly murderous secrets. The dead will be heard, one way or another.
Ghosts on a Plane is definitely a different type of book for me. I usually write about ghosts in historic houses or spirits hanging out at interesting landmarks. This book was a spooky side trip to an old memory but I am happy to have written it. I hope you enjoy it too, only I hope you’re not flying. If you are keep your wits about you.
Especially if you hear a rickety trolley coming down the aisle or feel a hand gripping your ankle.
